Help me do it for myself!: practical life, the source of development

Place: Montessori Palau Montgrí

  • How can we enhance our children’s autonomy?

  • How will we know what they can do at any given time?

  • How can we help them feel capable of doing something?

  • What do we need and when?

  • What opportunities does day-to-day life give us to share activities and tasks?

  • What do habits and routines provide us with?

  • What is the best time to get rid of nappies, dummies and baby bottles?

  • How can we help them in the kitchen?

  • How can we involve the little ones at home in the daily chores?

  • Is it possible to design a room geared toward promoting their independence and autonomy?

  • How much time should we give them to do things on their own?

The work on habits and routines is fundamental in early childhood education, because it helps to enhance the autonomy and socialization of children, as well as to improve standards and responsibility in their work. It is important to observe the small improvements the child makes, day by day, and to know how to value them, because this is an important and necessary motivation to keep moving forward. During the workshop, we will analyze the routines through which the child builds their autonomy and how overprotection prevents them from developing.

This activity is carried out in Catalan.
