History
More than 25 years’ experience
The history of the school dates back to 1979, when its educational efforts began under the name Jardí d’Infants Barrufet, thus becoming one of the first to be granted a teaching licence as an official nursery school. During the first stage, places were offered up until the age of 4 and, from 1998, this was extended to the second cycle of Primary Education, maintaining its essence as a small, family school where the child was always considered as a person. At this time, it was known as Els Petits-Barrufet.
Throughout these years, a large number of families from the municipality and the surrounding villages passed through the school. The trust placed in the centre is evident by observing how some alumni have chosen to send their own children to the same school they went to.
The conversion to a Montessori centre
From its beginnings, the old school operated following a traditional educational philosophy until the 2015-2016 academic year when it was decided to implement the Montessori Methodology. This is based on creating a framework of freedom that provides each child with experiences appropriate to their stage of development so that, in addition to discovering the world so they can adapt to it and take responsibility for its improvement, they can also fully develop as a human being. The pedagogical conversion of the centre was based on the training and experience of the teaching staff with the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) certification and on the preparation of the prepared environment for the classrooms from 0 to 3 and 3 to 6 years.
The new Montessori-Palau Montgrí School offers an environment prepared for the children so that they grow up with freedom and can interact with the environment, promoting good development. In this way we work on the autonomy, confidence, discipline and self-control necessary to exercise and develop their potential fully.
